Rivera and Sauer on All-East first team, McHenry named Honorable Mention

The University of Louisville volleyball team had three players earn postseason honors as setter Wilma Rivera and libero Molly Sauer were named to the AVCA All-Region First Team with Melanie McHenry joining her teammates on the honorable mention list. It is the second time winning this honor for both Rivera and Sauer.

The 2018 ACC Setter of the Year, Rivera was named First Team All-ACC. She started every set of every match since transferring from Penn State and leads ACC in assists per set. She was named Preseason All-ACC and lived up to the hype, recording six double/doubles and notching one or more aces in 20 matches. She is ranked in 27th NCAA stats in assists/set and 33rd in total assists. An offense-minded setter, she also had kills in 27 matches. The former Nittany Lion was named 2017 ACC Setter of the Year and 2017 HM All American, She had 40 + assists in 19 matches with 50+ in five matches. She not only ran the offense but played excellent defense for the Cards with a season-high 21 digs against No. 3-ranked Illinois for total of 233 on season. She is a member of Puerto Rican National Team.

Molly Sauer was named First Team All-ACC, the only four-time member on the list. She was second all-time in career digs at UofLwith 2,018 and had double digit digs in 26 matches, with a high of 30 vs. No. 19 Purdue. She was ranked 15th and has been as high as 12th in career digs among NCAA active players. The 2015 and 2017 ACC Defensive Player of the Year had three double-doubles this year. The Preseason All-ACC selection was an excellent server, with a team-high 45 aces, ranking first in ACC in aces, in top 45 in NCAA aces/set and the top 40 in total aces. She started every set of every match, served as the team captain and was a Member of US Collegiate National Team – China in 2018.

Melanie McHenry, who eamed First Team All-ACC honors, was the workhorse for the Cardinals on offense with 884 total attacks for 366 kills. She was second on team in digs with 237 and had 37 total blocks. Despite drawing attention from opponent blocking, she was in double digit kills in all but four matches. She missed two matches with sprained knee and then played back row in her first two matches after rejoining the team. She joined 1000 Career Kill Club. She had 15 + kills in 16 matches with season high 22 vs Syracuse and had three aces in three different matches. As the UofLpoint leader with 408.5, she was named Preseason All-ACC. During the season she was named to the All-Purdue Invitational squad and ranks 98th in career kills NCAA Division I Volleyball players.
