Cardinals Set Two American Records and a World Record at SC World Championships

Kelsi Dahlia and Mallory Comerford combined to set records in all three events.
HANGZHOU, China – Kelsi Dahlia broke her own American record in the 50 meter butterfly and helped the United States to a new world record in the 4x50 meter mixed medley relay to headline the Cardinals' third day of action at the FINA Short Course World Championships on Thursday evening.
Mallory Comerford also had a record breaking day, scoring a bronze medal for the United States and earning her second straight individual American record with a time of 51.63 in the 100 meter free. She surpassed reigning Olympic gold medalist Simone Manuel's previous mark and broke into the top-10 performances with a tie for the ninth fastest of all-time in the event.
Dahlia earned the second American record of the evening for the Cardinals and Team USA, dominating the first semifinal heat of the 50 meter fly in a time of 24.93. She heads into tomorrow night's final as the third overall seed.
Dahlia capped off the third day of competition with a world record in the 4x50 meter mixed medley relay alongside Olivia Smoliga, Michael Andrew and Caeleb Dressel. She posted a 24.71 split to help the United States to their fifth relay gold in a time of 1:36.40.
Carlos Claverie also put up a solid swim in the preliminaries of the 200 meter breast, dropping nearly five seconds from his seed time and finishing 22nd for Venezuela with a time of 2:07.83.
The fourth day of Short Course Worlds begins tonight at 8:30 p.m. EST.
