Lampasas and Rouanet Reach Singles Quarterfinals of Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Seniors Ciro Lampasas and Nicolas Rouanet will compete in the Division II quarterfinals Sunday morning

The University of Louisville's Nicolas Rouanet and Ciro Lampasas have advanced to the Division II singles quarterfinals of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships Saturday afternoon at the University of Georgia.

"Today showed that we still have a lot of work ahead of us," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "We were very rusty in doubles, but still had opportunities to do well. I was very happy to see Ciro and Nico do well. They both seem to be on a mission to prove something here. It will be exciting to see what they can do tomorrow."

Senior Nicolas Rouanet a senior from Gujan Mestres, France, defeated Kennesaw State's Lucas DeTorres Curth 6-2, 6-2 to set up a quarterfinal matchup with Georgia Gwinnett's Mika Kosonen which will be played on Sunday.

Lampasas, a senior from Houston, Texas topped Georgia State's Sebastian Acuna 6-4, 6-4 and will face Georgia's Andy Martinez on Sunday.

Also playing in Division II singles, junior George Hedley (Berkshire, England) fell 6-2, 6-4 to Jose Alonzo in the round of 16 while senior Santiago Salazar (Medellin, Colombia) lost a 7-6 (4), 6-1 decision to Virginia Tech's Ryan Kros in Division III. In the consolation draw, Stetson's Colter Decoste outlasted sophomore Fredrik Moe (Moss, Norway) 7-6(5), 6-7 (7), 1-0.

In the Division II doubles round of 16, Georgia Gwinnett's Kevin Konfederak and Gilad Berman defeated junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff (Capbreton, France) and Lampasas 8-4. The tandem of Rouanet and Hedley fell 8-3 to Mississippi's Fabian Fallert and Grey Hamilton. Moe and Salazar lost 8-1 to Georgia's Alex Phillips and Andy Martinez in the Division II round of 16.

The tournament will conclude on Sunday with singles matches starting at 10:15 a.m. ET.
