Rouanet Advances to Division II Singles Finals of Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Rouanet prevails over Lampasas in an all-Louisville semifinal to reach Monday's title match

The University of Louisville's Nicolas Rouanet has advanced to the Division II singles finals of the Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.

Rouanet, a senior from Gujan Mestres, France, reached the finals after defeating teammate and fellow senior Ciro Lampasas (Houston, Texas) 6-1, 6-4 in an all-Louisville semifinal.

" It was unfortunate that Ciro and Nico ended up on the same half and having to play in the semifinal," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "They have both been playing well enough to make it to the final. I'm proud of the run that Ciro had and excited about the opportunity for Nico. Last year we had Parker in the same final. This year we're hoping for one more win. Nico is up for the challenge."

The day started with both players picking up quarterfinal wins. Lampasas defeated Georgia's Andy Martinez 6-3, 7-5 and Rouanet topped Georgia Gwinnett's Mika Kosonen 6-3, 6-1.

Rouanet will face Stetson's Malik Bhatnagar in the Division II finals Monday at 10 a.m.
