Cards Downed by Cal in Weekend Opener

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 50-ranked University of Louisville men's tennis team put up a fierce battle in singles competition but was ultimately swept 4-0 by No. 65 California Friday night at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
California's (12-8, 4-3 ACC) duo of Paris Pouatcha and Bernardo Munk Mesa clinched the doubles point 6-3 on Court 3 to give the Golden Bears the early 1-0 advantage.Â
Cal carried its momentum into singles competition, taking down courts five, two then four in straight sets. Louisville's (14-8, 3-4 ACC) Jerald Carroll, Matei Onofrei and Walid Ahouda were all competing in third sets but were unable to finish as Cal clinched the victory.Â
The Cards will remain at home for a Sunday doubleheader, which will be the last time to watch the team at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center this season. Senior day festivities will begin prior to the start of the noon match against Stanford with a 5 p.m. Match set to follow against crosstown rival Bellarmine.Â
