Cards will send six players to Athens, Ga. this weekend for the Southern Intercollegiate Championships
The University of Louisville men's tennis team open the 2017-18 fall season this weekend at the 50th Annual Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia.
Â
Seniors Ciro Lampasas, Nicolas Rouanet, Santiago Salazar, juniors Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff, George Hedley and sophomore Fredrik Moe will represent the Cardinals in the tournament which features three divisions in singles and two doubles flights.
Â
"We are excited about starting our new year," said UofL head coach Rex Ecarma. "Fall invitationals are always great to play because it allows each playing a chance to win the tournament and play quite a few matches in a weekend. Georgia does a great job of hosting this first-class event and last year they had a blockbuster field, so I expect the same this year."
Â
The Cardinals wrapped up the 2017 season with a 22-10 overall record and reached the regional finals of the NCAA tournament while making their NCAA appearance in program history. Louisville finished the season at No. 34 in the ITA national team rankings. Louisville returns 10 players from last year's team including All-ACC selections Morin-Kougoucheff and Parker Wynn. The Cards also welcome junior transfer Federico Gomez to the 2018 squad.
