Men's Tennis Off to Strong Start at Southern Intercollegiate Championships

Cards pick up eight wins on day one
The University of Louisville men's tennis team opened the 2017-18 fall season with a strong showing on day one of the Southern Intercollegiate Intercollegiate Tennis Championships Friday at the University of Georgia.
"It was a very nice first day for us here," said UofL assistant coach Jakob Gustafsson. "This is historically a great tournament and I was happy to see us perform well in all of our three-set matches. It will be a very interesting day tomorrow and we will certainly be pushed to play our best tennis. I think we all look forward to the challenge."
The Cardinals picked up six singles wins. In Division I singles, sixth-seeded junior Christopher Morin-Kougoucheff topped Grey Hamilton of Ole Miss 6-3, 2-6, 6-4. While playing in Division II singles, fourth-seeded senior Nicolas Rouanet topped East Tennessee's Juan Lugo 6-3, 6-2. Fifth-seeded junior George Hedley registered a 2-6, 6-3, 4-3 win over Tennessee Tech's Gonzalo Garcia and senior Ciro Lampasas bested Mercer's Fernando Guardia 3-6, 7-5, 6-1.
Senior Santiago Salazar picked up a pair of wins beating Lander's Axel Cronje 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Stetson's Collin MacNamara 6-3, 2-6, 6-4.
In doubles action, Morin-Kougoucheff and Lampasas teamed to beat Ole Miss' Kevin Konfederak and Gilad Berman 8-6 while Rouanet and Hedley topped Florida Atlantic's Thomas Guy and Gabriel Sidney 8-4.
Action will continue tomorrow morning.
