Cards open their fall slate on the road.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's tennis team begins its 2017-18 season this weekend as it travels to Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Invitational hosted by Miami University. Louisville returns to this event for the first time since 2014.
Â
In addition to hosting Miami, Louisville will be joined by squads from Xavier and Purdue. The Cardinals open action on Friday, Sept. 29 with a doubles match against the Boilermakers at 1 p.m., followed by a singles contest with Miami later in the afternoon.
Â
On Saturday, the Cards begin the day in singles against Xavier at 10 a.m., immediately followed by a doubles matchup with Miami. The event concludes on Sunday with singles against Purdue at 9 a.m. and doubles against Xavier at noon.
Â
The Cards return to the court for the first time since falling to Wake Forest in the second round of last season's ACC Tournament. Louisville returns eight members of last year's 2016-17 roster, including four seniors and highly-touted Raven Neely, last season's Mid-American Conference Freshman of the Year at Northern Illinois.
Â
Home-standing Miami finished last season with a 12-12 record, falling to Buffalo in the MAC Championship. First-year head coach Ricardo Rosas takes control of a young squad that includes six freshmen players. Purdue looks to rebound from a tough 6-16 campaign, while Xavier plans on improving from an 11-11 mark in Big East play.
Â
Following this weekend's tournament, the Cards will remain on the road for the Wake Forest Invitational and ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championship in Murfreesboro, Tenn. The fall schedule will conclude with the hosting of the Louisville Tennis Classic on Nov. 3-5, with Ball State, Michigan State and West Virginia heading to the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.
