
Swimmers In Action in Day 8 Prelims at World Championships

Comerford and Tarasevich help put their relays in finals
On the final day of preliminary competition at the 2017 FINA World Championships, three University of Louisville Cardinals were in action.

Rising sophomore Etay Gurevich of Israel got things started, placing 27th overall in 400 IM with a time of 4:22.66. American Chase Kalisz qualified first overall.Â

In her final swim after a breakout week, Mallory Comerford delivered the fastest anchor of the field in the USA's 4x100 medley relay to lead Team USA to the top spot in prelims.  The American foursome of Olivia Smoliga (59.52), Katie Meili (1:05.17), Sarah Gibson (58.36) and Mallory Comerford (52.90) put up a time of 3:55.95 to  nab the top seed. Team USA will swap in a new lineup for the final, with all four swimmers having won individual medalists in their 100-meter strokes (Kathleen Baker, Lilly King, Kelsi Worrell, Simone Manuel).

Grigory Tarasevich led off the 4 x 100 Medley Relay for Russia in his final swim with a leadoff leg of 53.71. Russia heads into the finals seeded third.The American team put up the top time of 3:29.66 going into today's final.
