Tarasevich Advances to Semi-finals at World Championships in Budapest

Kelsi Worrell will swim in 100-fly finals today
University of Louisville swimmer Grigory Tarasevich qualified for semi-finals in the 100M backstroke  Monday morning at the FINA World Championships in Budapest.

Grigory Tarasevich, swimming for his native Russia, qualified third in the 100 Back with a time of 53.18.  Grisha, as he is known, picked up the Cardinal momentum from the day before that saw his Louisville teammates Mallory Comerford and Kelsi Worrell win gold in the 4x100 free relay. China's Asian record Xu Jiayu from China and America's 2012 Olympic gold medalist, Matt Grevers, were both under 53  seconds just ahead of Tarasevich, who touched ahead of the  defending Olympic champion and world record holder Ryan Murphy from the USA.

UofL swimmer Marcelo Acosta swam the 200-meter freestyle for his native El Salvador and put up a 1:50.92. China's Sun Yang was the top qualifier in the event, posting a 1:45.78.

Tarasevich will be back for his second swim beginning at 11:30 a.m. ET as will Kelsi Worrell, who will be swimming in the Finals of the 100-meter butterfly.
