No. 20 Lacrosse Falls 9-7 at No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday

Hannah Koloski and Meghan Siverson finish with two goals each to lead the Cardinals
Notre Dame, Ind. -- The No. 20 Louisville lacrosse team fell 9-7 to No. 7 Notre Dame on Saturday afternoon at Arlotta Stadium. Hannah Koloski and Meghan Siverson led the Cardinals with two goals apiece.
"We had an incredible first half but we have to get back to playing a complete game," said head coach Kellie Young. "Our defense was phenomenal. I couldn't ask for much better execution of our game plan. Brittany (Read) had the best game of her career in and out of the cage."
The Cardinals got on the board first when Jillian Balog found Meghan Siverson to put the Cards up 1-0 at the 28:41 mark. The Irish scored on the next possession to tie the game. Madison Hoover found Emily Howell in the 23rd minute to put the Cards up 2-1.Â
Notre Dame then went on a 2-0 run to take a 3-2 lead with 10:18 left in the first half. That sparked a 3-0 Louisville run for a 5-3 lead with 1:14 left to play in the half. McKayla Conti started the run then Hoover scored before Hannah Koloski capped the run, converting a free position shot. The Irish scored with eight seconds left in the half to cut the Louisville lead to 5-4 to end the half.Â

Notre Dame started the second half with a 4-0 run in the first 15 minutes to take an 8-5 lead. Koloski scored with 11 minutes left in the game to cut the lead to 8-6. With 8:40 left to play, Ashley Lynch found Siverson to get the Cardinals with within one. The Irish scored a security goal 30 seconds later for a 9-7 lead.Â
Louisville keeper Brittany Read made some big saves in the closing minutes but the Cardinals were unable to find the back of the net. Read finished with a career-high 16 saves.Â
Louisville held an 11-6 advantage at the draw while the Irish outshot the Cardinals 36-19. Notre Dame also finished with a 29-14 ground ball advantage.Â
Siverson led the Cardinals with five draw controls and Heidi Smith finished with three. Taylor Webster led the Cardinals with three ground balls and two caused turnovers. Balog led Louisville with two assists.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, March 11 as they host Duke at noon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. Â
