Hannah Koloski Leads Lacrosse to a 13-9 Win over Brown

Cardinals earn 100th program win on Saturday against Brown
ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 20 Louisville lacrosse team defeated Brown University 13-9 on Saturday afternoon to improve to 5-1 on the year. Senior Hannah Koloski led the Cardinals with six goals. The Louisville victory was the 100th win in program history.
"We were able to get a strong win today against a determined Brown team," said head coach Kellie Young. "We continue to learn about our strengths and weaknesses but it's time to learn how to put our foot on the gas pedal. Hannah Koloski has put tremendous back-to-back games together. Meghan Siverson was tremendous on the draw, grabbing a remarkable 11 on the day."
Brown scored first and jumped out to a 2-1 lead in the first five minutes. Louisville responded with a 3-0 run to take a 4-2 lead at the 15:28 mark of the first half. Meghan Siverson began the run converting a free position shot. Koloski then scored on two straight free position shots to give the Cardinals the lead.
A minute later Brown scored to cut the lead to two. Sophomore McKayla Conti scored her second goal of the match, converting a free position shot with 4:21 left in the half. The Bears scored with one second left in the half to cut the Louisville lead to 5-4.
Heidi Smith scored off an assist from Jillian Balog to start the scoring in the second half, giving Louisville a 6-4 lead at the 25:22 mark. Brown scored on a free position shot to get within one. Louisville responded with a 4-0 run led by Koloski and Siverson. Koloski scored in the 17th minute and then again in the 16th minute. Siverson scored on a free position shot in the 12th minute and again in the 11th minute to put Louisville up 10-5.
Brown then went on a 2-0 run with Carolyn Paletta scoring both goals. Koloski scored on a free position shot with 6:25 left to play. Brown scored on the next possession to cut the lead to 11-8. With 4:30 left to play, Siverson scored on a free position shot to keep the game out of reach.
The Bears scored on the next possession but Koloski scored her sixth and final goal off an assist from Ashley Lynch with 35 seconds to secure the 13-9 win.
The Cardinals held a 14-8 lead in the draw and converted on 8-of-10 free position shots compared to Brown's 2-of-7. Louisville finished with a 34-28 shot advantage and an 18-14 advantage in ground balls.
Brittany Read improved to 5-1 on the year and collected 11 saves and four ground balls. Siverson led the team with 11 draw controls. She also finished with four goals. Taylor Webster finished with four ground balls while Emily Howell finished with two caused turnovers.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday, March 1 as they host Cincinnati at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium at 6:00 p.m.
