Lacrosse Falls 11-10 in Triple Overtime to Denver

Cardinals fall for the first time this season on the road to the Pioneers
DENVER, Colo. -- The 18th-ranked University of Louisville lacrosse team fell 11-10 to Denver in triple overtime on Saturday evening. The loss is the first for the Cardinals, as they fall to 3-1 on the year while No. 16 Denver improves to 4-0.Â
Senior attacker Hannah Koloski led the Cardinals with four goals while sophomore Meghan Siverson finished with three.Â
The game was very tight from the beginning. The Cardinals got on the board first with a goal from Siverson at the 24:55 mark. Denver then went on a 2-0 run to take the 2-1 lead. Siverson and Koloski scored on consecutive free position shots to give Louisville a 3-2 lead with 14 minutes remaining in the half.Â
Denver scored two goals to take a 4-3 lead before sparking a 2-0 Louisville run. Koloski scored on a free position shot to tie it at four with 11 minutes remaining. Ashley Lynch found Taylor Webster at the 4:28 mark for a 4-5 Louisville lead. The Pioneers closed out the half with a 2-0 run to take a 6-5 lead into the break.

The Pioneers took a 7-5 lead in the opening minutes of the second half, scoring at the 26:52 mark. Koloski scored on another free position shot to get Louisville within one with 23:57 remaining in the half. Denver scored again to take an 8-6 lead.Â
Louisville used the biggest run of the game, scoring three straight to take a 9-8 lead with 10:11 remaining in the second half. McKayla Conti scored at the 18:04 mark, Koloski scored at the 15:21 mark and Siverson capped the Louisville run.Â
Denver went on a 2-0 run to take a 10-9 lead with 4:42 left to play. A minute later, Lynch found Madison Hoover for the equalizer. Neither team scored in the final 3:44, forcing the overtime period.Â
The Cardinals were able to get two shots off in the first overtime period but were unable to convert. Denver had seven shots in the second overtime period while Brittany Read made four stops to force the third overtime period.Â
Denver scored on a free position shot 37 seconds into the third overtime for the win.

Read finished with a season-high 13 saves. Emily Howell and Siverson finished with two caused turnovers while Siverson finished with seven draw controls. Lynch led the Cardinals with two assists.
Both teams were even at the draw with 13 apiece. Denver held a 33-27 shot advantage and a 14-10 advantage in ground balls. Louisville committed 21 turnovers while Denver finished with 16.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 22 as they host Vanderbilt at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium at 3:00 p.m. Â
