Women's Tennis Picks Up Pair of Wins at Louisville Challenge

Louisville wins both singles and doubles match on Day 1 of Challenge
The University of Louisville women's tennis team picked up a win in doubles and singles in the first day of competition at the Louisville Classic Friday afternoon at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center.

The opening doubles round of the morning featured a battle of Cardinals as Louisville took all three matchups from Ball State with 6-1 scores. At No. 1 position, the senior pair of Mariana Humberg and Abbie Pahz topped Peyton Gollhofer and Julia Sbircea, while senior Ariana Rodriguez and sophomore Tiffany Huber prevailed at No. 2 over Audrey Berger and Rebecca Herrington. In the third position, junior Sena Suswam and sophomore Raven Neely defeated Isabelle Dohanics and Victoria Sec.

The Cards were less successful in the second half of the morning round, dropping two matches to Michigan State. Humberg and Pahz completed a doubleheader sweep with a tough 7-5 victory at No. 1 against the Spartans' Emily Metcalf and Davina Nguyen. In the other two contests, Neely and Rodriguez fell 6-4 at No. 2 and Huber and Suswam fell 6-3.

In the afternoon singles matches, the Cards took an early lead against the Mountaineers. Humberg faced sophomore Christina Jordan and won 6-1 in two sets. Sophomore Tiffany Huber walked away with a victory resulting in 6-0, 6-4 defeat of Giovanna Caputo. Pahz won 6-2 in two sets defeating Sofia Duran, while Neely also topped Anne-Sophia Corteau with a 6-3, 6-4 victory.

Mountaineer senior Lyn Yuen Choo defeated Rodriguez in a tough 6-3, 6-4 loss while freshman Mia Schmidt- Jorgenson also fell to Paula Goetz in a 6-3, 6-3 loss.
