JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Depth and contributions from the lineup have contributed to plenty of success during the fall for the University of Louisville women's golf team.
The Cardinals opened the year with consecutive top-five finishes and earned their first team title of the year last week with an eight-stroke victory at the Cardinal Cup. Louisville finished the first day, playing 36 holes, with a 12-hole lead.
The Cardinals are seeking to build off that momentum this week, with the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational. The 12-school, 13-team field is playing from Friday through Sunday at the par-72, 6,210-yard Atlanta Athletic Club Highlands Course. Illinois, Louisville, and East Carolina each head into the event ranked in Golfstat's top 50.
Teams are teeing off between 8:30-10:30 a.m. each day from holes 1 and 10.
Louisville will utilize a scoring lineup of Lauren Hartlage, Molly Skapik, Kristin Engle, Jacqueline Twitty, and Olivia Cason. The Cardinals' Black team features Delaney Shah, Meghan Nay, Jordan Susce, Margot Bechadergue, and Linda Trockel. Live is scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
Hartlage was a key component in the Cardinal Cup victory, shooting the second-lowest 54-hole tournament score in school history. The sophomore, who is leading the team in scoring average, matched the program's single-round score after totaling a 7-under-par 65 in the second round.
A senior, Skapik has been the team's No. 2 finisher in three tournaments this year, including tying for fourth at the Cardinal Cup. In the tournament prior, the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, Skapik carded a 6-under-par 66 in the first round and placed 10th.
A combination of scores from Cason, Engle, and Twitty ensured Louisville's success through the early parts of the season. Cason has shot four rounds even or below par, Engle is third on the team in scoring average as a freshman, and 8.5 of Twitty's rounds have counted toward the team score.
Shah, who sits in the No. 1 spot for the Black team, tied for 32nd at the Cardinal Cup, finishing with a 12-over-par 228.
The event serves as a fall-season finale for the Cardinals, who boast a 290.25 four-player team average that currently ranks first in school history.
