October 27, 2017 | Women's Golf
Louisville is three shots behind Georgia for top of the team leaderboard.
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – Olivia Cason and Molly Skapik compiled top-10 performances on Friday, and the University of Louisville women's golf team is in second place at the Ladies Fall Intercollegiate Invitational in Johns Creek, Ga.
Cason rebounded from last week's outing at the Cardinal Cup, responding with a 2-over-par 74. The junior had three birdies through the first round of the tournament, where the best scores were even-par 72. Skapik tied for eighth with a 3-over-par 75 and had 15 pars to lead the 73-player field.
The Cardinals totaled a 14-over-par 302 and head into the second round at the Atlantic Athletic Club Highlands Course three strokes behind Georgia. Louisville registered the third-best par-4 (4.32) and par-5 (5.05) scoring averages.
Jacqueline Twitty shot a 4-over-par 76, tied for 13th, and Lauren Hartlage is tied for 17th after logging a 5-over-par 77.
There is little separation in the individual leaderboard. Coastal Carolina's Malene Krolboll Hansen and Georgia's Rinko Mitsunaga are tied for first with even-par 72, but only hold a five-shot advantage over the golfers ranked inside the top 20.
Delaney Shah, who had a solid season opener at the Cardinal Cup, is pacing both of Louisville's teams at the event. The sophomore shot a 1-over-par 73, matching a collegiate best, to sit in a tie for third. She had two birdies on the front nine and tacked on another on No. 12.
Meghan Nay also contributed a top-15 showing to the Louisville Black Team, carding a 3-over-par 76 for a 13th-place tie.
The Cardinals tee off with Illinois and Georgia on Saturday, beginning at 9:40 a.m. ET.
