The Cardinals shot a 6-over-par 294 in the second round and are tied with Kennesaw State.
JOHNS CREEK, Ga. – The University of Louisville women's golf team, playing on an already challenging course, persevered through unfavorable conditions in the second round of the Ladies Fall Creek Invitational in Johns Creek, Ga.
Stellar play from Olivia Cason and Lauren Hartlage, both now inside the top 10, propelled the Cardinals into a tie for first at the Atlanta Athletic Club. Collectively, the Cardinals' scoring team shot a 6-over-par 294 and is tied with Kennesaw State atop the 13-team field. The event concludes on Sunday, and Louisville is slated to tee off with Illinois and Georgia at 9:40 a.m.
Cason finished her day with a birdie on No. 18, a par-5, 462-yard hole, to move into a three-way tie for third. She shot a 1-over-par 73, giving her a two-day score of 3-over-par 147. The junior is tied for the second-best par-4 scoring average at 4.10.
Hartlage had an impressive round, as she was one of just five golfers to shoot below par. The sophomore, who was bogey free, sank 17 pars and a birdie on No. 17 to move into a tie for sixth. She climbed 11 spots on the leaderboard, boasting a 4-over-par 148.
Molly Skapik matched her first-round score, with a 3-over-par 75, and is tied for 11th. The senior, who has a two-round total of 6-over-par 150, logged par on 16 holes. With birdies difficult to attain at the tournament, she leads the 73-player field with 31 pars.
Kristin Engle contributed the team's fourth score, also with a 3-over-par 75. She rose to a tie for 40th and has a 14-over-par 158 entering the final day.
Meghan Nay and Delaney Shah continue to lead the Louisville Black team, which ranks ninth through two days.
Nay shot a 4-over-par 76 and is tied for 16th, while Shah is one spot back in a tie for 17th.
The Cardinals, participating in their final fall event, are aiming for their second-consecutive team title on Sunday.
