LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf team has an opportunity for the second-consecutive outing to measure itself against some of the nation's elite programs.
The Cardinals begin competition Friday in the Ruth's Chris Tar Heel Invitational, a three-day event in Chapel Hill, N.C., that features nine schools that finished last year in Golfstat's top 30. Alabama, Duke, South Carolina, and Arkansas each finished in the top 15 in 2016-17, with Arkansas and Alabama claiming the top-two spots, respectively, in this week's Golfweek team rankings.
The 18-team field is competing on the par-72, 6,379 yard UNC Finley Course. First tee time on Friday is set for 8:51 a.m. ET, and live results will be available on Golfstat.com.
The Cardinals will utilize a lineup of Lauren Hartlage, Olivia Cason, Molly Skapik, Kristin Engle, and Jacqueline Twitty. Louisville is scheduled to tee off with Alabama and Virginia, starting at 10:39 a.m.
Two weeks ago at the Golfweek Conference Women's Challenge, the group tied for fifth with a 20-over-par 884. The team's third-round performance, a 5-under-par 283, tied for the ninth-lowest round in program history. Playing against a contingent that included seven teams ranked in Golfstat's top 50 last year, the Cardinals finished ahead of Michigan and TCU, while tying SMU and San Diego State.
Individually, Engle tied for 19th with a 4-over-par 220. Cason shot a 6-over-par 222 and tied for 26th.
Through two tournaments, Hartlage leads the team with an even-par 72.00 average. She, Cason, and Skapik each have logged four rounds even or below. Par.
