Â
"It was a huge positive to notch our first win of the season at home for this young team. When you play a team that is playing like they have nothing to lose, it's a huge advantage for them," said Anne Kordes, UofL head coach. "I liked the way Kali Eaken was connecting with our middles Tess Clark and Jasmine Bennett. Tess was able to take the game over at times. We need to continue to build confidence as a young team and that comes with experience."
Â
In the first set, the Cards started on a 4-1 run with two kills from Tess Clark. The Seawolves then responded with a mini run of their own to take a 10-6 lead. As the score evened up towards the end of the set, the Cards used two timeouts to regroup. Fighting off two set points, an attack error was the final score needed to help the Cards hold on to win the first set 27-25.
Â
In the second set, the Cards opened up a dominant 21-6 lead. Led by Morgan Miller and Melanie McHenry, they cruised to a 25-8 second set victory. This was the fewest points allowed in a set since holding Marquette to 8 in the first set of a 2008 match.
Â
With the score even throughout most of the third set which featured eight ties and five lead changes, the Seawolves eventually pulled ahead 23-19. The Cards held off 3 set points before falling in the third set 25-22. Their hitting percentage chilled, falling to .088 for the set.
Â
In the fourth set, the Cards were able to take control down the stretch with  seven kills by Tess Clark. The Cards ended the game on a 5-0 run to win the final set and match 25-19.

The Cardinals will take the court again tonight when they play Auburn at 7:30 p.m. at the KFC Yum! Center.Â
