Cardinals Kick Off Doubleheader with a 4-0 Shutout of UAB

Gabrielle Vincent scores a hat trick to lead the Cardinals
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Sophomore Gabrielle Vincent scored her first career hat trick to lead the Cardinals to a 4-0 win over UAB on Friday night in Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals improve to 2-0-1 on the season while UAB falls to 1-2-0 on the year.
Louisville dominated possession on the offensive end and held the Blazers without a shot in the first half. The Cardinals struck first in the 32nd minute when Niamh Nelson sent a cross in the box and Vincent fell to the ground to head the ball into the net for a 1-0 Louisville lead.
Louisville finished the first half with a 12-0 shot advantage and an 8-0 corner kick advantage. UAB's Kelsey Daugherty finished the first half with three saves while Taylor Bucklin was never tested.
The Cardinals picked up where they left off in the second half and dominated possession again. Vincent struck again in the 72nd minute for the Cardinals. This time the sophomore defender headed a corner kick from Allison Whitfield into the net for a 2-0 Louisville lead.
Twelve minutes later Vincent was in front of the net and collected a deflection and sent it inside the net for a 3-0 Louisville lead. Five minutes later, freshman Sanela Hodzic sent a cross to Tina Marolt just outside the penalty box. Marolt maneuvered around a defender and sent the ball above the keeper's head, hitting the cross bar and bouncing inside the box for the goal and a 4-0 lead.
The Cardinal defense held UAB without a shot, finishing the match with a 32-0 shot advantage and a 17-0 corner kick advantage. . Daugherty finished with six saves while UAB finished with nine total saves. Bucklin finishes with her second consecutive shutout.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday, Aug. 28 as they host Toledo at 3:00 p.m. in Lynn Stadium.
