Louisville’s women’s golf coaching staff will give lessons to 16 injured veterans.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's golf coaching staff has shown its ability to teach and develop talent, evident by the Cardinals' success over the last four seasons that includes a conference championship and three regional appearances.
Head coach Courtney Trimble and assistant coach Mary Bryan also have been demonstrative in wanting to give back to the community and helping grow the sport of golf. Joining Trimble and Bryan in the clinic are men's golf assistant Aaron O'Callaghan and current LPGA Tour player Reilley Rankin.
This week, the duo is devoting a three-day golf clinic from Tuesday through Thursday to 16 injured service members of Team Semper Fi and Team America's Fund at the UofL Golf Club in Simpsonville. The participants will learn everything on the course, from short game, playing from the bunker, full swing, and etiquette, to valuable lessons off the greens.
The groups will engage in instruction on Tuesday and most of Wednesday, before taking a tour of the Louisville campus as well as historic Churchill Downs. On Thursday, the service members will put their skills to test and tee off for a round of golf at the newly renovated UofL Golf Club. Later that day, they will take part in different competitions before departing for dinner.
Team Semper Fi and Team America's Fund are athletic programs of the Semper Fi Fund, a nonprofit providing urgently needed resources and lifetime support for wounded, critically ill and injured members of the U.S. Armed Forces and their families. Team Semper Fi and Team America's Fund make it their mission to provide "Recovery Through Sport" to service members through a wide variety of sports, activities, and events.
"Golf is a sport that can be played by all ability levels, and is the ultimate challenge both mentally and physically for service members on their road to recovery," Casey Fisher, senior manager for TSF and TAF, said. "Playing golf helps them sharpen their minds and focus, as well as tuning up their bodies. It takes them to a place where they are able to recover. The degree of difficulty of this game requires a lot of focus, determination, and ability to adapt – all qualities of our Team Semper Fi and Team America's Fund."
