Rosenbaum finishes 2-for-4 with a homer; Harrington allows one run in 6.2 innings for no-decision
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Nick Sciortino's ninth inning RBI single scored pinch runner Jake Alu and pushed Boston College to a 2-1 walk-off win against the No. 3 Louisville baseball team Saturday afternoon at Pellagrini Diamond.
The Eagles (21-14, 7-11 ACC) scored their only runs of the game in the final three innings to overcome a one-run deficit and clinch a series victory against the Cardinals (30-9, 13-7 ACC). The two teams will conclude their weekend series on Sunday at noon ET with radio coverage on 93.9 The Ville.
After pulling even in the seventh inning, Boston College made its winning move with a trio of singles in the ninth against Louisville junior righty Zack Burdi. Pinch hitter Scott Braren led off with a single to left and was replaced by Alu, who advanced to third later in the inning on a one-out single to right by Jake Palomaki. Sciortino followed by sending a 1-2 offering up the middle for the game-winner.
Burdi took the loss and dropped to 1-2 on the season, while Boston College's Bobby Skogsbergh earned the win and moved to 1-1 on the season after working two innings of shutout relief with two strikeouts. Neither starting pitcher factored in the decision but both were outstanding. Junior lefthander Drew Harrington twirled another strong outing allowing just one run on five hits with four strikeouts in 6.2 innings for the Cardinals, while righty Justin Dunn surrendered one run on six hits with four strikeouts in six innings.Ā
With the starting pitchers commanding the first four innings on Saturday afternoon, the Cardinals connected for the first run of the game in the fifth on a solo home run by senior first baseman Danny Rosenbaum. A native of Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania, Rosenbaum led off the inning by launching a 2-2 pitch from righthander Justin Dunn over the left field wall for his 10th career home run.
The Eagles finally broke through for their only run of the day against Harrington when Palomaki drove Logan Hoggarth home with a two-out RBI single in the seventh. Hoggarth led off the inning with a single through the left side and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt from Gabriel Hernandez. After advancing to third on a groundout, Hoggarth scored the tying run when Palomaki sent a 3-2 pitch into center.
Rosenbaum finished 2-for-4 overall, while sophomores Devin Hairston and Brendan McKay added two hits each for Louisville. Hoggarth, Palomaki and Sciortino had two hits each for Boston College.
