Cardinals improve to 8-0 at home with a 14-5 win over Brown on Wednesday Night

LOUISVILLE, KY. – Louisville used a second half run to defeat Brown 14-6 on Wednesday night at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The Cardinals improved to 12-1 for the season and remain perfect at home with an 8-0 record.

Kelli Gerding led the Cardinals with four goals while Cortnee Daley finished with three goals. Kaylin Morissette finished with two goals and two assists.

The Bears started strong and got on the board first with a free position goal to take a 1-0 lead at 28:12. Richael Walsh increased Brown's lead to 2-0 with a score at 21:12.

Morissette scored the first goal for the Cardinals a minute later. Louisville added two more goals to take its first lead of the game at 3-2. Gerding scored at 14:58 for the tie. Daley scored the go ahead goal nearly 10 minutes later on a free position shot.

Brown tied it up 3-3 with 2:59 remaining in the first half. Jillian Balog pulled the Cardinals ahead with a goal at 1:58 and Hannah Koloski made it 5-3 with 31 seconds left in the first half.

Louisville finished the first half with a 15-6 shot advantage and an 8-1 advantage in draw controls. Victoria Holland finished with seven saves in the first half while Brittany Read finished with two saves.

Louisville opened the second half on a 6-0 scoring run to take an 11-3 lead. Gerding sparked the run with two straight goals. Daley, Morissette, Koloski and Madison Hoover all scored goals in that six minute span to gain a comfortable lead.

The Bears scored at the 20:23 mark to cut the Louisville lead to 11-4. It was 10 minutes before either team would score. Gerding found scored off a pass from Morissette to go ahead 12-4. Less than a minute later Brown scored a free position goal to cut the lead to 12-5 at the 8:04 mark.

Hoover scored the next goal for the Cardinals at 6:46 to give them a 13-5 lead. Brown responded with a goal at 5:12. But Daley scored the final goal of the game with 3:23 remaining for a 14-6 win.

Louisville finished the game with a 17-5 advantage in draw controls and a 30-15 shot advantage. The Cardinals were a perfect 12-12 in clears while Brown went 8-for-11.

Holland finished with 11 saves for Brown while Read made five stops for the Cardinals. Morissette finished with six draw controls while Daley led the team with three caused turnovers. Koloski led the team with three ground balls.

The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, April 9 as they travel to No. 4 North Carolina.
