No. 5 Louisville Defeats Cincinnati 11-7 on Tuesday Afternoon

Hannah Koloski leads the Cardinals with five goals
CINCINNATI, OHIO – No. 5 Louisville defeated Cincinnati 11-7 on Tuesday afternoon to improve to 10-1 on the season. Hannah Koloski led the Cardinals with five goals while Kaylin Morissette finished with three goals.Â
"I give our team a lot of credit for overcoming adversity and coming away with the win," said head coach Kellie Young. "However, the stomach bug or not we have to use every opportunity to grow and prepare for ACC opponents."
Morissette opened up scoring for the Cardinals with a goal in the 26th minute. Four minutes later the Bearcats tied the game with a goal by Katie Stegmann. Louisville responded with a 5-0 run with four straight goals by Koloski. The Cardinals scored on three straight free position goals to go up 4-1, one from Morissette and two from Koloski.
Koloski scored off a pass from Kelli Gerding at the 8:32 mark and then on another free position shot in the seventh minute for a 6-1 Louisville lead. The Bearcats ended the 18 minute scoring drought with a goal by Brooke Kovinsky at the 4:15 mark. Cortnee Daley scored with 1:36 remaining in the first half for a 7-2 Louisville lead. The Bearcats scored in the final second of the first half, cutting the lead to 7-3 at the break.Â
Louisville finished the first half with a 17-8 shot advantage and a 9-1 draw controls advantage. The Cards finished the first half connecting on 4 of 5 free position shots. Cincinnati finished with four saves while Brittany Read finished with one.
The Cardinals scored first in the half with a goal by Koloski at the 23:36 mark. The Bearcats answered shortly after with a goal, cutting the lead in half (8-4). Louisville scored again in the 16th minute with a goal by Morissette off a free position shot.Â
The Bearcats responded with a 2-0 run to cut the lead to 9-6 with 11:48 remaining in regulation. The Cardinals answered with a 2-0 run of their own to take an 11-6 lead at the 5:37 mark. Gerding scored and then Heidi Smith scored on a free position shot.  The Bearcats would score the final goal of the game with 3:22 left to play, giving Louisville an 11-7 win.Â

Louisville finished the game with a 26-14 shot advantage and a 15-4 advantage in draw controls. The Cards scored on 6 of 9 free position shots. Â Cincinnati finished with eight saves while Read finished with three for the Cardinals. Â
Morissette finished with 10 draw controls to lead Louisville. Daley finished with a team-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, March 26 as they host Virginia Tech at 1:00 p.m. at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.Â
