
Lacrosse Defeats Virginia Tech 15-9 on Saturday Afternoon

Four Cardinals scored multiple goals in the win
LOUISVILLE, KY. – Four Cardinals scored multiple goals as No. 6/7 Louisville defeated Virginia Tech 15-9 on Saturday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. Louisville improves to 11-1 on the season and 3-1 in ACC action. Â
Hannah Koloski led the team with four goals while Kaylin Morissette led the team in points with three goals and three assists. Kelli Gerding finished with three goals and two assists while Cortnee Daley finished with three goals and one assist.Â
Louisville took an early 4-0 lead to start the game. Morissette got the Cardinals on the board first with an unassisted goal at the 27:24 mark. Daley scored an unassisted goal in the 23rd minute and then Morissette scored again a minute later. Emily Howell then found Koloski open for her first goal of the game at the 21:57 mark for a 4-0 lead.
The Hokies stopped Louisville's scoring run 40 seconds later with a goal to cut the lead to 4-1. The Cardinals' offense cooled until Gerding found Morissette for another goal at the 9:47 mark. The Hokies scored 40 seconds later, cutting the Louisville lead to 5-2. At the 3:29 mark Madison Hoover sent a pass into Daley for the final score of the half, giving the Cards a 6-2 lead at the break.

The Cardinals finished the first half with a 16-5 shot advantage while the Hokies held a 5-4 advantage in draw controls. Virginia Tech's Hannah Sieger finished with four saves while Brittany Read finished with one.Â
The second half saw more scoring than the first half. Hoover scored first for Louisville for a 7-2 lead. The Hokies scored four minutes later. Gerding scored on a free position shot in the 22nd minute to give Louisville an 8-3 lead. Virginia Tech scored two straight goals to cut the Louisville lead to 8-4.Â
Louisville responded with a 5-0 run to take a 13-5 lead with 11:16 remaining in the game. Koloski finished with two goals during that run. Down the stretch the Hokies were able to take advantage of some Louisville penalties to cut into the lead but it was not enough as the Cardinals finished with a 15-9 win. Â
Louisville finished the game with a 33-23 shot advantage while Virginia Tech finished with a 15-11 draw control advantage. The Hokies also finished with a 14 ground balls compared to the Cardinals' 10. Louisville finished 3 of 3 on free position shots while the Hokies went 3 of 6.Â
Sieger finished with eight saves while Read finished with 10. Morissette led the Cardinals with six draw controls and three caused turnovers. Read led Louisville with two ground balls.Â
The Cardinals will be back in action on Wednesday, March 30 as they host Brown at 7:00 p.m. at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium. The game will be the first game in program history under the lights.Â
