
Lacrosse Holds Off Temple for an 8-5 Road Win

Kaylin Morissette records a hat trick in the Louisville win
PHILADELPHIA, PA. - The No. 14/16 Louisville lacrosse team used a strong first half performance to improve to 2-0 on the season, defeating Temple 8-5 on Friday afternoon. Four players scored for the Cardinals, led by senior Kaylin Morissette with her first hat trick of the season and added an assist.
Louisville got off to a hot start, scoring just twenty seconds into the game. Morissette scored first for the Cardinals, despite being a man down. Temple would score their lone goal of the first half at the 23:39 mark to knot the game up at 1-1.
Morissette scored the go ahead goal, sparking a 4-0 Louisville run. Kelli Gerding found Cortnee Daley at the 12:15 mark to take a 3-1 lead. Hannah Koloski scored at the eight minute mark and then again at the 1:48 mark to give Louisville a 5-1 lead at the half.
Louisville finished the first half with a 15-5 shot advantage and a 6-1 advantage in draw controls. Temple held a slight 7-6 ground ball advantage.
Daley and Gerding combined again just six minutes into the second half to give Louisville a 6-1 lead. Temple scored in the next minute to cut the lead to 6-2. Morissette found Julie Wood at the 18:16 mark to push the Cardinal lead to 7-2.
Temple then scored three goals in the final minutes to cut the Cardinal lead to 8-5. Morissette scored at the 4:44 mark for and an 8-3 lead but the Owls scored two goals in the final three in a half minutes.
Louisville finished the game with a 24-15 shot advantage. Temple finished with a 15-13 lead in ground balls while Louisville had a 10-5 draw advantage. Brittany Read finished with four saves for the Cardinals while the Temple keeper finished with nine.
The game was a physical one with a total of six yellow cards, five of those given to Louisville including one at the outset on a stick violation.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 20 as they host Denver at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium at 1:00 p.m. Louisville's game against Duquesne that was scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 14 was cancelled due to weather.
