Women's Lacrosse Rolls to a 14-3 Win Over Denver on Saturday

Cardinal improve to 3-0 on the year with the win
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The No. 14/17 University of Louisville lacrosse team used goals from eight different Cardinals to defeat Denver 14-3 on Saturday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
Senior Kaylin Morissette and junior Hannah Koloski each posted hat tricks while goalkeeper Brittany Read finished with eight saves to help the Cardinals improve to 3-0 on the young season.
Louisville scored first with Julia Wood scoring an unassisted goal at the 25:35 mark. The Pioneers responded with goals from Julia Feiss and Casey White to take their only lead of the game.
Koloski quickly answered to tie the game and spark a 7-0 run to end the half. The Cards used a goal by Kelli Gerding to retake the lead before back-to-back goals by Morissette pushed the lead to 5-2. Koloski found the net again on a pass by Cortnee Daley with nine minutes left to play in the half. Jillian Balog scored an unassisted goal before sophomore Taylor Webster scored her first career goal at the 1:52 mark.
Louisville finished the first half with a 14-8 shot advantage and a 10-1 advantage in draw controls. Denver held a slight 11-9 ground ball advantage.
Out of the half, the Cardinals pushed their lead to 11-2 behind goals from Morissette and a free position goal by Daley. Denver snapped a 9-0 Cardinals' run with a goal by Casey White at the 16:36 mark to cut the lead to 10-3.
Balog found the net 23 seconds later to give the Cards an 11-3 lead. Koloski and Wood each then added goals to give the Cards a 10 goal advantage and prompt a running clock. Freshman Elise Koehl scored her first career goal off a free position shot with two minutes remaining to cap the scoring.
Louisville finished with a 26-14 shot advantage and a 16-3 advantage in draw controls, with Morissette grabbing 11. The two teams each picked up 15 ground balls and had eight saves apiece.
The Cardinals will be back in action for a midweek matchup as they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to face Vanderbilt on Tuesday afternoon at 4 p.m. The team will then kick off a three-game homestand as they host Boston College in a conference matchup on Saturday, Feb. 27 at noon in the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.
