Cardinals kick off the season at Vanderbilt on Saturday

LOUISVILLE, KY. -- The Louisville men's and women's track and field teams kick off their 2016-17 season as they travel to Nashville to compete in the Vanderbilt Indoor Opener this weekend inside the Vanderbilt Indoor Multipurpose Facility. Field events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m. with the men's and women's high jump and the women's weight throw. Running events are scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. with the women's 60 meter hurdles.

This weekend, the Cardinals will compete against 11 all from the state of Tennessee or Kentucky. Â Louisville will get their first test of the season from the following teams - Austin Peay, Belmont, Lipscomb, Memphis, Middle Tennessee State, Murray State, Tennessee State Â
Tennessee Tech, Trevecca Nazarene, Vanderbilt, and Western Kentucky.

All-Americans Returning
In head coach Dale Cowper's fourth year at the helm of the Louisville track and field teams, the Cardinals begin their third season in the ACC. Louisville returns five All-Americans from last year, including ACC Champions Edwin Kibichiy (3,000m steeple chase, outdoor), Emmonnie Henderson (shot put, indoor and outdoor), Damar Robinson (high jump, indoor), and Dolly Nyemah (weight throw, indoor).
