February 17, 2026 | Track & Field
Callahan was named ACC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for the second time this season, while Kipruto was named ACC Men’s Freshman of the Week for the third time.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Two University of Louisville track & field athletes have been recognized by the Atlantic Coast Conference for a pair of performances that rank among the top 10 nationally, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Ashley Callahan earned ACC Women's Field Athlete of the Week honors for the second time this season, while Elsingi Kipruto was named ACC Men's Freshman of the Week for the third time.
Callahan cleared a personal-best bar of 4.50m (14-9) in the women's pole vault at the Don Kirby Elite Invitational that moved her into a tie for both sixth nationally and first in the ACC with teammate Iliana Triantafyllou, who cleared the same bar in Albuquerque on three more attempts.
Callahan impressively posted a clean sheet through her first four heights of the competition, earning third place in a competitive field and improving on the previous program record of 4.48m (14-8) that she set at the Bellarmine Open on Jan. 16.
Kipruto finished as the runner-up in the men's 5000m among a stacked field at the Husky Classic in Seattle, clocking a time of 13:15.74 that ranks sixth in the NCAA and second in the ACC.
The time also shattered the previous program record of 13:29.37 that he set in his collegiate indoor debut at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener on Dec. 6. Kipruto has now broken program records in each of the first three indoor meets of his collegiate career.
Next up, the Cardinals will turn their attention to the postseason with the ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships set to take place in Boston, Mass. on Feb. 26-28.
