Cards Open Weekend at Jim Green Invitational

LEXINGTON, Ky. – The University of Louisville track & field teams opened up the Jim Green Invitational on Friday, combining for six individual top-three finishes over the course of the day.
Ashley Callahan picked up her second event victory of the outdoor season, clearing a final bar of 4.30m (14-1.25) to take the top spot in the women's pole vault.
Ryan Farrell also secured a win in the invitational section of the men's 800m with a time of 1:48.04, while Brendan Ruggles finished third after crossing the line in 1:50.37.
The Cards also got a pair of personal-best performances on the javelin runway, as Ryan Drwal finished as the runner-up in the men's javelin throw and Gianna Rotelli placed third in the women's javelin throw. Drwal posted a mark of 60.43m (198-3) on his final attempt of the competition that improves his No. 2 mark in program history, while Rotelli recorded a mark of 43.41m (142-5) that moves her up to fourth in the Louisville record books.
In the women's hammer throw, Demaria King claimed third place with a toss of 53.28m (174-10), while Aja Johnson recorded a massive personal record of 52.03m (170-8) to place fifth.
The Cardinals will begin the second and final day of the Jim Green Invitational tomorrow at 10:30 a.m. ET with the women's discus throw and men's shot put. Track events are set to get underway at 12:55 p.m. with the women's 5000m.
