Volleyball Sweeps Boston College

Tess Clark and Jasmine Bennett each had eight kills. Gabbie Wiley adds three aces.
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's volleyball team used 12 blocks and 42 kills to beat Boston College on Friday night at the KFC Yum! Center. The Cardinals (12-18, 7-13) swept the Eagles (8-22, 3-17) 25-18, 25-16, 25-22 to close out the season with a 3-0 win on senior night.
"That was a fun way to sweep the final home match for senior night." Head coach Anne Kordes said after the match. "Everyone contributed to the winning effort. Our middle blockers played phenomenally both swinging and blocking. Molly Sauer anchored our passing. Gabbie Wiley was super aggressive from the service line. Hats off to our seniors. They have been nothing but a joy to coach."
Louisville was led by Jasmine Bennett with eight kills and assisted on six blocks and Tess Clark with eight kills and one block. Gabbie Wiley added three aces and five digs to the cause. BC was led by Jill Strockis with seven kills and three digs and Sol Calvete with seven kills and an ace. UofL outhit BC .257 to .078 for the match and out blocked the 12 to three.
The Cards jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead in the first set, courtesy of a kill and block by Tess Clark as Louisville would lead from the opening serve. Nine Cardinals recorded a point in the first set led by seniors Janelle Jenkins and Lyndsay Palmer both with four. Leading 21-12 in the first set, BC battled back and went on a 5-0 run to cut the lead to 21-17, forcing Louisville to call their first timeout of the set. A kill by Melanie McHenry and an ace by Molly Sauer started a 4-1 run to take the first set.
Louisville came out aggressively in the second set, jumping out to a 4-0 lead early, and they wouldn't surrender the lead again thanks to a 9-0 run, with Gabbie Wiley serving eight of those points, to take a 16-4 lead, and then on to an eventual 25-16 win in the second set. Louisville hit .290 in the second set with three aces and 4.5 blocks.
The Cards were tested in the third set, falling behind for the first time on the night as BC kept it close the whole set. With the Eagles leading 8-7, a kill by Melanie McHenry started a 4-0 run to take a 11-8 lead. The third set would tighten with BC tying the match at 16 all. The Cards countered with a 5-1 run to take a 21-17 lead and force BC to take their final time out. Bennett had the match point to give the Cards a 25-21 third set win.
The match marked the last games for seniors Eleni Georgiafandis, Janelle Jenkins and Lyndsay Palmer.
