Volleyball Heads to Boston and Syracuse as ACC Action Continues

Cards face Boston on Thursday at 7:30 and Syracuse on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The University of Louisville volleyball team heads to Boston College Oct. 6 at 7:30 and then on to Syracuse for a 1 p.m. match on Sunday.

The Cardinals are in search of their first ACC win, standing at 0-4 in the league and 4-9 overall. It is the slowest start ever for Louisville in conference action. The Cards are led by freshman Melanie McHenry, who has a team-high 167 kills. Tess Clark leads all blockers with 51, adding 123 kills. Libero Molly Sauer has 217 digs and 13 aces.

Last year, the Cardinals swept Boston College 3-0 at home and 3-1 in Chestnut Hill. Louisville beat Syracuse 3-1 in the KFC Yum! Center but fell to the Orange in the final regular season match of the year, 3-0 which almost cost them the outright ACC crown. Duke helped out the Cardinals with an upset of UNC to give the Cardinals the undisputed championship and the better seed In the NCAA tournament.

Boston College 5-9 (0-4 ACC) is looking for its first ACC victory. The Eagles played nine of their first 10 games at home in Power Gym. BC opened league play on the road at Syracuse, falling 3-1 to the Orange before returning home to face UNC, where they took the No. 12-ranked Tar Heels to five before bowing out. The Eagles lost in Miami last Friday 3-0 before losing to to Florida State on last Sunday  25-20, 25-17 20-15 in Tallahassee. In that match, senior Anna Skold led the Eagles with her seven kills, as freshman Sophia West chipped in with six kills of her own. Skold also led the Maroon and Gold with her .267 hitting percentage on the day. In the digs category, senior Madisen Lydon was the team leader for the Eagles with 12.

The Orange began ACC conference play with a split at home, defeating Boston College in four sets (25-18, 25-12, 15-25, 25-21) and falling to NC State in three (15-25, 18-25, 20-25) 'Cuse does have a pair of ACC wins, adding a 3-1 win over in Coral Gables. The Orange currently are tied for No. 2 in the ACC in blocks per set with 2.66. National No. 10 North Carolina leads the conference with 2.97. 'Cuse continues to spread blocking eff orts among its players, as nine members have registered a block assist or a solo stop this season. Amber Witherspoon leads in solo blocks with 12, while Leah Levert leads block assists with 42 on the season.
