Volleyball Returns to KFC Yum! Center to Face Florida State, Miami

Cards play FSU on ESPNU and Miami match will feature Trick or Treat Trail and Costume Contest.
The University of Louisville volleyball team returns to the KFC Yum! Center for two matches as ACC action continues. The Cardinals face No. 11-ranked Florida State Seminoles on Friday at 6 p.m. and the Miami Hurricanes on 2 p.m. on Sunday with both matches at the KFC Yum! Center.

About the Cardinals
The Cardinals are coming off a split weekend that saw them beat Virginia Tech 3-1 but fall to Pitt 3-0.Â
Melanie McHenry had 15 kills, three aces and three blocks to lead the University of Louisville to a 3-1 win over Virginia Tech Friday evening in Blacksburg. Against the Hokies, the Cardinals controlled the match from the service line Gabbie Wiley and Morgan Miller took the Cardinals on runs and gave UofL big leads in three of four sets.  Tess Clark added 14 kills against a double block. The Cardinals (7-13, 2-8 ACC) hit .283 with 10 blocks and nine aces.  Jasmine Bennett had 10 kills and a team-high seven blocks. Virginia Tech (8-12, 3-6 ACC) hit .129 with six blocks.

Then on Sunday, Pitt's Stephanie Williams had 13 kills and 11 digs to lead the Panthers to a 25-22, 25-15, 25-17 over the Cards.  UofL hit .094 with 9.5 blocks and three aces but had 13 service errors. Pitt hit .274 with four aces and 10.5 blocks. Jasmine Bennett led the Cardinals with seven kills and two blocks. Morgan Miller added seven kills and an ace. Pitt got seven kills from Jenna Potts, who also had six blocks.  Â

About the Seminoles
Senior Katie Horton recorded her 17th career double-double and fifth of the season (17 digs, 11 kills) to guide 12th-ranked Florida State past Virginia 27-25, 25-22 sand 25-16 as the Seminoles moved to 16-3 overall and 9-1 in ACC play following a pair of sweeps this week. Horton, who reached double figure kills for the fourth time in the last five outings, completed her fourth double-double performance against an ACC foe in 2016. Joining her among the offensive leaders were Christina Ambrose (8 kills), Milica Kubura (7 kills) and Hailey Luke, who handed out a team-high 14 assists.
Horton had her 10th double-digit dig outing of the season and along with 11 digs by Cecile Woie, the Seminoles recorded 48 digs as a unit. Meanwhile, the front row trio of Mara Green (six assisted blocks), Natasha Calkins (4) and Melanie Keil (3) limited Virginia to a .124 attack percentage.

Last Wednesday, led by the trio of Milica Kubura (12 kills), Katie Horton (nine kills, nine digs) and Melanie Keil(nine total blocks), FSU earned its eighth sweep of the season by downing ACC rival Miami 25-12, 25-15, 25-22.

The University of Miami volleyball team closed out last weekend with a three-set sweep of Virginia to earn its third ACC win of the season. The Hurricanes (9-13, 3-7 ACC) closed the first two sets against the Cavaliers 25-19, 26-24, to head into the intermission leading two sets to none.

The University of Miami volleyball team fell to rival Florida State in three sets on Wednesday night. Olga Strantzali led Miami with nine kills, adding four digs and a block. Anna Haak had eight kills and three digs, while Kolby Bird finished with three kills and a team-high four blocks. Lucia Pampana had five kills and tied with Bird for the team lead with four blocks, while Sakile Simmons added a kill and a block. Hannah Sorensen tallied 25 assists, adding a team-best seven digs and a kill. Sylvia Hernandez had six digs and a service ace.

Sunday, promotions include Girl Scouts Night and there will be a costume parade and contest as well as a Trick or Treat Trail before the match on the concourse with candy stations manned by UofL student-athletes from all sports.
