LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The No. 4 Louisville men's soccer team will play its third straight top 10 foe as they visit No. 7 Wake Forest on Saturday night. ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville enters the weekend at 9-2-2 overall following a 2-1 loss to No. 9 Indiana on Tuesday. The Cardinals are atop the ACC Atlantic at 4-0-1 after knocking off No. 3 Syracuse 1-0 last Friday. UofL has been paced by junior Mohamed Thiaw's nine goals, including an NCAA best six game-winners. Graduate student Stefan Cleveland has allowed only six goals in 13 matches while registering eight shutouts to anchor the defense.Â

Wake Forest enters the match at 9-2-2 after Tuesday's 1-0 home win against Marshall. The Demon Deacons are 3-1-1 in the ACC after drawing 2-2 at Notre Dame last Saturday. Led by head coach Bobby Muuss, Wake Forest was 17-3-2 last season and won the ACC Atlantic with a 6-0-2 record. The Demon Deacons advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Championship before falling to eventual champion Stanford, 2-1, in overtime.

The Cardinals were No. 2 in goals against average (0.45), sixth in shutout percentage (0.62), 13th in save percentage (0.833), 14th in total goals (25), 16th in total points (72), 17th in total assists (22) and 22nd in scoring offense (1.92 goals per game).
Individually, three Cardinals have emerged to rank among the best in the nation and the ACC -- junior forward Mohamed Thiaw, graduate goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland and junior defender Tim Kubel. Thiaw was ranked No. 1 in the nation with six game-winning goals, ninth in the nation and second in the ACC in goals (nine), 15th nationally and second in the ACC in points (19), 18th in the nation and second in the ACC in goals per game (0.69) and 29th in the nation and second in the ACC in points per game (1.46).Â

CLEVELAND, THIAW TWICE EARN ACC PLAYER OF THE WEEK HONORS
Graduate goalkeeper Stefan Cleveland and junior forward Mohamed Thiaw have twice earned ACC weekly honors this season with each of those honors coming in the same weeks. Cleveland was named ACC Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week on September 20 and was Co-Defensive Player of the Week on October 11, while Thiaw was chosen as the Co-Offensive Player of the Week on both September 20 and October 11.
JOHNSON NAMED CANDIDATE FOR SENIOR CLASS AWARD
Midfielder Daniel Johnson was named Oct. 7 among 30 candidates for the 2016 Senior CLASS Award in collegiate men's soccer. To be eligible for the award, which represents excellence both on and off the field, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: community, classroom, character and competition. An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities. The candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one male candidate and one female candidate who best exemplifies excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition.
