No. 18 Louisville Women’s Soccer Falls 2-1 in Double Overtime to No. 15 Notre Dame

Cardinals fall in double overtime to Notre Dame, ending a four game unbeaten streak
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The University of Louisville women's soccer team fell 2-1 in double overtime to No. 15 Notre Dame on Saturday night in Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals fall to 7-3-2 on the year and 2-1-1 in ACC play while the Irish improve to 8-1-3 overall and 3-0-1 in league play.
Alison Price got the scoring started at the 4:14 mark of the first half. Niamh Nelson headed the ball into the box which found the head of Price, who placed the ball just out of reach of the Irish goalkeeper to give Louisville the early 1-0 lead.
Notre Dame found the back of the net at the 37:04 mark of the first half. A few headers inside the box landed at the feet of Sandra Yu, who wasted no time and put a shot past the Louisville defense for th equalizer.
The Cardinals had a chance in the waning minutes of the first half when they put a cross into the box that found the leg of Price who put it out of the reach of the Irish keeper, but just over the crossbar to keep the match tied at 1-1 going into the half.
Notre Dame had a chance to take the lead in the 54th minute. A shot by Kaleigh Olmstead was saved by Bucklin. The rebound bounced out to another Irish attacker, who put a shot on goal, but Bucklin gobbled that one up.
A Louisville corner in the 70th minute was cleared by the Irish, but not far as it was passed around outside the bock until a pass found number Sarah Feola in the box. A shot on goal was saved by the Notre Dame keeper.
The teams would trade chances towards the end of regulation, but nothing manifested a goal and the game would head to overtime.
The Cardinals had two chances of the first overtime with shots by Rivers and Kaela Dickerman, but came up with empty with saves by the Irish.
Louisville would be awarded with a free kick in the 102nd minute. Inger Katrine Bjerke put the ball in the box, but a foul on Louisville ended the Cardinal threat.
In the 104' minute, a corner awarded to Notre Dame was shot into the box and found its way to the head of Megan McCashland, who placed it into the back of the net for the win.
Notre Dame finished the match with a 22-13 shot advantage and a 6-5 edge in corner kicks. Bucklin finished with a season-high nine saves while Little finished with six.
Louisville is back in action on Thursday, Oct. 6 when they welcome NC State to Lynn Stadium at 7:00 p.m.
