Cardinals will close second week of fall ball with two open scrimmages at Patterson Stadium
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Week two of the Louisville baseball team's fall schedule will conclude with open scrimmages Friday and Saturday at Jim Patterson Stadium.
The weekend will begin with a 3 p.m., ET first pitch on Friday, while Saturday's scrimmage is slated to begin at 11 a.m. Pregame batting practice will begin approximately one hour prior to first pitch each day and fans are encouraged to arrive early each day.
Louisville concluded its first week of fall workouts with a pair of scrimmages last Friday and Saturday at Patterson Stadium. In the opener, junior lefty Drew Harrington had three strikeouts in two shutout innings, while senior righty Anthony Kidston and sophomore righty Sean Leland added two scoreless innings each. Junior righty Jake Sparger and sophomore righty Lincoln Henzman chipped in with two shutout innings of relief. Offensively, redshirt freshman Austin Clemons tripled, drove in two runs and scored once, while junior outfielder Corey Ray added a pair of hits.
On Saturday, sophomore infielder Blake Tiberi was 3-for-3 with a run scored, senior infielder Danny Rosenbaum delivered a two-run homer and sophomore infielder Devin Hairston had two hits and scored once. On the mound, sophomore righty Kade McClure and freshman lefty Adam Wolf delivered two innings of no-hit relief, while freshman righty Sam Bordner and sophomore righty Chandler Dale had two strikeouts each during two innings of scoreless work.
The Cardinals are tentatively scheduled to host weekend scrimmages nearly every week until the conclusion of fall workouts in mid-October. Dates and times for future scrimmages as well as the annual Pizza Bowl series will be announced throughout the fall.
In addition to the typical fall scrimmages, the Cardinals will also make a five-day visit to the Dominican Republic on Oct. 2-6. The trip, which will coincide with the university's mid-term break, will include multiple games against local winter league teams while also offering community service opportunities for the players and coaches. The complete schedule of activities for the trip will be announced next week.
