McKay Named to John Olerud Award Watch List

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Louisville freshman lefty pitcher and first baseman Brendan McKay was named on Wednesday to the watch list for the 2015 John Olerud Two-Way Player of the Year Award, which honors the nation's top player both on the mound and at the plate.
A native of Darlington, Pa., McKay has a 6-1 record with four saves, a 1.70 ERA and 67 strikeouts in 53.0 innings pitched. After starting the season in the bullpen for the No.3 Cardinals (31-9), McKay has started game two in each of the last six series, all against ACC foes. At the plate, he's batting .328 with a home run and 19 RBI in 33 starts as a hitter.
The award is named for the former Washington State University standout who achieved success both as a first baseman and left-handed pitcher during the late 1980s, and who was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. The award will be presented as part of the Hall of Fame's Night of Champions celebration, June 28-29 in Lubbock.
