March 11, 2015 | Swimming & Diving
The University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team will be sending eight swimmers in individual events and possibly up to five relay swimmers to the NCAA National Championships held March 26-28 in Iowa City, Iowa.
The NCAA released the official psych sheets for the 2015 NCAA Division I Championships, and in most events the swimmers ranked 29th-or-higher in the pre-selection sheets were invited along with a few swimmers ranked 30th depending on the number of ties in an event.
UofL will send seniors Addison Bray (200-breast) and Thomas Dahlia (100-breast, 200-breast). Joining them will be juniors Nolan Tesone (200-IM, 400-IM) and Pedro Coutinho (100-butterfly). The sophomore class will send Trevor Carroll (500-free, 200-free), Aaron Greene (200-back) and Grigory Tarasevich (100-back, 200-back). Freshman Carlos Claverie qualified in the 200-breaststroke. Aaron Young is the second alternate in the field which will be determined after the diving zones are determined.
The Cardinals qualified in all five relays as well and will field a team in the 200-free relay, 400-free relay, 800-free relay, 200-medley relay and the 400-medley relay.
Besides Young, relay swimmers will likely be Rudy Edelen, Josh Quallen and Matthias Lindenbauer. Depending on Young's status, freshman Jonathan Zoucha, who had a strong showing at the last chance qualifying meet, could be included as well.
The Cardinals also qualified in all five relays: the 200-free relay (1:17.96), 400-free relay (2:53.11), 800-free relay (6:20.02), the 200-medley relay (1:25.06) and the 400-medley relay (3:06.06).
The Cardinals are coming off a strong showing in their first ACC Championship appearance when they finished second. In all, Louisville won gold in five events - 100 butterfly, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 200 breaststroke, and 400 medley relay - and finished with 16 medals, the second most of any team.
