
Cardinals Challenge Hoosiers Tuesday in Bloomington

Kickoff set for 7 p.m., at Bill Armstrong Stadium; Louisville has won last 2 visits to IU
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Louisville men's soccer team plays the first of two road matches this week with Tuesday's visit to Indiana. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m., ET at Bill Armstrong Stadium in Bloomington. The match will be streamed online through BTN Plus, while live stats will be provided through GoCards.com.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Louisville, enters Tuesday's match with back-to-back wins and a 6-5-3 record overall following last Friday's 2-1 double overtime win against No. 19 Boston College. Leading the way for coach Ken Lolla's club is freshman Tate Schmitt, who has six goals to go with three assists, while Daniel Johnson has four goals overall, including goals in two of the last three matches. Andrew Brody and Tim Kubel have three goals each in 2015, while senior Ben Strong has scored twice this season. The Cardinals have also received goals from Shane Campbell, Jack Gayton, Romilio Hernandez, Ricardo Oliveros, Danny Reynolds and Ethan Vanacore-Decker.
ABOUT THE HOOSIERS
Indiana enters the week at 7-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the Big Ten following last Friday's 0-0 draw at No. 18 Maryland. Femi Hollinger-Janzen leads the Hoosiers with six goals this season, while Grant Lillard is next on the team with three goals. Last season, Indiana was 12-5-5 overall and finished sixth in the Big Ten with a 3-3-2 league mark. The Hoosiers were upset 2-1 by Xavier in the second round of the NCAA Championship in Bloomington.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
Tuesday will mark the 22nd meeting all-time between the Cardinals and Hoosiers with IU holding a 16-4-1 lead in the series, which dates back to 1981. Louisville has won each of its last two visits to Indiana -- a 3-0 win in 2013 and a 3-2 overtime victory in 2011.
LOUISVILLE NOTES AND TRENDS...
• The Cardinals are 0-3-1 on the road this season. They are 6-2-2 at home in 2015 and 13-5-5 overall at Lynn Stadium since its opening prior to the 2014 season.
• Having played to a 2-3-1 record against ranked foes (wins over No. 15 Kentucky and No. 19 Boston College, losses at No. 5 Clemson, No. 8 Stanford and at No. 10 Virginia, draw against No. 22 NC State) thus far in 2015, the Cardinals are also slated to play at No. 5 UNC and No. 2 Wake Forest this season.
• Tim Kubel leads the Cardinals with 10 career goals, while Andrew Brody is next with nine. Both Kubel and Brody have three goals each this season.
• Andrew Brody also leads the Cardinals with 56 career starts -- highlighted by 22 last season and 20 as a freshman in 2013.
• With his game-winning goal on Oct. 13 against UConn, Ricardo Oliveros became the third Louisville freshman to score a goal this season joining Tate Schmitt (six goals) and Danny Reynolds (one goal).
• Eleven different Louisville players have scored goals this season.

CARDINALS AT NO. 22 IN THIS WEEK'S RPI; ACC WITH NINE OF THE TOP 23 TEAMS
With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Atlantic Coast Conference has asserted itself as the top league in the nation in 2015. In the latest NCAA RPI released on Monday morning, nine ACC schools are ranked in the top 23 spots, including No. 22 Louisville. The Cardinals are joined by No. 1 Wake Forest, No. 2 North Carolina, No. 3 Clemson, No. 5 Notre Dame, No. 11 Syracuse, No. 12 Boston College, No. 17 NC State and No. 23 Virginia.
SCHMITT THIRD IN ACC IN GOALS, SEVENTH IN POINTS; STRONG NINTH IN ASSISTS
After eight weeks of action, Louisville freshman Tate Schmitt has emerged as one of the standout attackers in the Atlantic Coast Conference ranking among the top players in the prestigious league in goals and points. With six goals in 14 matches, Schmitt is tied for third in the conference, while his 15 points are tied for seventh most in the league. Additionally, senior Ben Strong leads the Cardinals with four assists this season, which places him tied for ninth in the ACC.
LOUISVILLE HOSTS HISPANIC HERITAGE NIGHT ON SEPT. 25
The University of Louisville men's soccer program hosted Hispanic Heritage Night at Dr. Mark and Cindy Lynn Stadium on Sept. 25 as the Cardinals played to a 1-1 draw against ACC foe NC State.
In conjunction with Hispanic Heritage Month, which runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, the Cardinals recognized and celebrated the Latino culture in America and the inspiring individuals of the past who worked for the advancement of the Hispanic community. The Latino community is a growing and dignified group in the United States and has made progress in all areas including business, politics, education, athletics, music, and entertainment, and has successfully fused itself within the culture of America.
Louisville's 2015 roster features six players with Hispanic heritage – senior Jerry Ramirez, junior Romilio Hernandez and freshmen Oliver Calvo, Eric Izaguirre, Ricardo Oliveros and Max Stiegwardt. The festivities were a celebration of tradition, heritage and soccer as the Cardinals continue their 2015 slate.
During the match, the Louisville men's soccer program honored and recognized the University of Louisville Hispanic Latino Faculty and Staff Association, which advises the President and the University of Louisville community on the nature of issues and needs confronting the Hispanic/Latino Faculty, Staff, and Students in the University. The HLFSA also provides assistance in evaluating University programs as they pertain to the Hispanic/Latino community, provides input to University and City of Louisville officials and assists the Hispanic/Latino community to make the University system more accessible. JOHNSON NAMED ACC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK ON SEPT. 15
Louisville junior midfielder Daniel Johnson was named Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15 marking the first ACC weekly honor for the Cardinals this season. Johnson, who shared the honor with Duke's Jeremy Ebobisse, connected for his first two goals as a Cardinal scoring once in the Sept. 8 win over No. 15 Kentucky and again in the 1-1 draw at Syracuse on Sept. 11. A native of Duluth, Georgia, Johnson scored in the 28th minute of Louisville's 2-0 home triumph over the rival Wildcats. Three nights later, the Maryland transfer delivered his second tally of the week connecting on the game-tying goal at Syracuse inside the final 65 seconds of the first half of the Cardinals' ACC opener.
