
No. 24 Volleyball Set to Host Active Ankle Challenge

The University of Louisville volleyball team, which moved into the national rankings tied at No. 24 in the AVCA Poll, will host the Active Ankle Challenge presented by The Galt House on Friday and Saturday in Cardinal Arena in the Student Activities Center on Campus.
UofL will open the tournament at 10 a.m. Friday morning hosting Tennessee State followed by Appalachian State versus Cincinnati at noon. After a brief break, TSU will take on ASU at 5:30 before the Cardinals take on long-time rival Cincinnati at 7:30 in the night cap.
UofL is 1-1 with its win coming in an upset of #12 Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge last weekend in Minneapolis. Maggie DeJong had a coming out party in her first weekend as a Cardinal. DeJong was instrumental in the Cardinal's upset win over No. 12 Minnesota in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge Saturday night in Minneapolis. Louisville had four players record double-digit kills for the match, including DeJong with 11. Maggie hit a blistering .567 for the weekend, including a .700 outing against No. 6 Wisconsin. In the win over UM, Laura Blab had the set winning kill in two separate sets including the final set.
The win over the ranked opponent is a first since 2012, when the Cardinals beat No. 10 Kentucky, No. 11 Purdue and No. 20 Illinois before embarking on the final Big East Conference slate.
Undefeated Appalachian State won the Appalachian Invitational which included a 3-0 win over SEC powerhouse Tennessee. The Mountaineers(3-0) also topped Gardner Webb on Tuesday. ASU was tabbed to finish seventh in the Sun Belt.
Tennessee State is off to a slow start 0-3 thus far, falling to Arkansas, Michigan and Stephen F. Austin. The Tigers are led by senior Naomi Wells, who is averaging 3.11 kills/set, 4.00 digs/set and 0.56 blocks/set this year.
Cincinnati is coming off a 2-1 performance at the Queen City Classic which it hosted with crosstown rival Xavier University. The Bearcats beat Duquesne and UC Irvine led by Ciara Hill, who was named the AAC Women's Player of the Week Hill led the Bearcats in the opening weekend of play with a 3.50 kills/set ratio in three matches. The sophomore recorded her second-career double-double in a 3-1 win over Duquesne with 17 kills and a career-high 10 digs.
