Volleyblog Features Maya McClendon
August 18, 2014 | Women's Volleyball
Hello All,
This is Maya McClendon, sophomore Outside Hitter from Manual High School and today is our second day off of Preseason.
As many of you know we had was Fall Sports Fan Day, and even though it was our day off the girls and I couldn't have had more fun than interacting with all of the wonderful people that support our team as well as our other fellow student-athletes.
In our wonderful volleyball corner we had the opportunity to sign autographs for old and new fans of our program and we were able to inform a lot of our Cardinal family about the UK game on September 9th. I literally asked every person I crossed paths with if they knew about the game and we were all handing out cards like crazy! There's no way we won't sell out for that game!
Other than that there are a few things I feel like I should update you all about that I feel are funny enough to share involving our team during this preseason.
Well, first of all, we have an amazing coaching staff; each brings their own flavor and energy to get the best out of us players. As many of you know, Lee Maes, one of our coaches, has a very, very articulate and oriental flavor. Every chance he gets he will throw out the longest, most obscure words he can think of for the situation at hand. So a couple days ago he was explaining a drill and decided to use the word "Proprioception", and as we all looked at each other with squinted eyes and depressed laughter we somehow came up with the most brilliant nickname for him... Thesaurus Maes. I couldn't think of anything more perfect on this Earth.
Lastly I just wanted to wrap this up by letting you know that tomorrow starts the next chapter of our improvement and growth as a team. We have worked so hard and our team chemistry couldn't be any tighter.
For all of those reading I just wanted to give you a fair warning, this year we are fighting everyone in our way with a chip on our shoulder and seeing each and every one of you will help us get closer and closer to our goal.
So on behalf of my teammates, coaching staff, Trainers and Strength coaches I wanted to say thank you so, so much for the love and support and Go Cards!
