Lucas Named American Conference Player of the Week

Junior infielder Zach Lucas had his first career two-home run performance last week and hit .500 overall in five games.
PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Junior infielder Zach Lucas of the seventh-ranked Louisville baseball team was chosen as the American Conference Player of the Week on Monday following his impressive work at the plate last week.
A Louisville native, Lucas hit .500 (9-for-18) with two home runs, seven RBI, 10 runs scored, a .944 slugging percentage and a .625 on-base percentage while leading the Cardinals (14-5) to a 5-0 week. His best game of the week came in Louisville's 20-10 series-opening win over Samford last Friday when he connected for a pair of home runs, five RBI and scored four times. For the season, Lucas is hitting .308 with a team-leading four home runs, 18 RBI and 17 runs scored in 17 starts.
This marks the second time this season Lucas has been chosen as the American Conference Player of the Week after also earning the honor on Feb. 24. It's the third time overall a Louisville player has earned the weekly accolade as senior outfielder Jeff Gardner was selected on Feb. 17.
Up next, No. 7 Louisville travels to Bloomington, Ind., for a midweek contest at Indiana on Wednesday at 4 p.m., ET. The Cardinals will then return home to open American Conference action with a weekend series against Rutgers starting Friday at 6 p.m., ET at Jim Patterson Stadium.
