
Swimming and Diving Advances After Day 3 AAC Prelims

Thirty-three swimmers earned second swims and two divers will return for the finals this evening after the third day at The American Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships Friday morning at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
Tanja Kylliainen put up the fifth fastest time in the country in the 400-IM, qualifying first in the field with a 4:07.57, an NCAA Invite time. Abigail Chin was third in 4:16.11 for a B-cut and Carly Munchel made the A-final with a 4:24.92.
Nolan Tesone qualified first in the men's 400-IM, posting a 3:47.59 with the fastest breaststroke leg of the field. Freshman Jake Schultz was second in 3:55.85. Bryan Draganosky made the A-final with a 4:01.75.
In the 100-fly, Kelsi Worrell qualified second with an NCAA Invite time of 52.48. Devon Bibault was third in 54.04 and a B-cut. Senior Mary Mittel was sixth with a time of 55.3.
In the men's 100-fly, Aaron Young put up an NCAA Invite time of 46.62 as the top qualifier. Pedro Coutinho was in hot pursuit with a 46.89 for second. Josh Quallen was third in 47.55 (a B-cut), David Boland was fourth in 47.68 and Juan Lopez snuck in the A-final with a 49.05.
Breann McDowell is the top qualifier for the Cardinals in fourth with a time of 1:48.19 in the women's 200-free. Just after her in fifth is Andrea Kneppers who swam a time of 1:48.47, and coming in sixth is Abbie Houck in 1:48.57.
Louisville has the top three qualifiers in the men's 200-free, which were all B-cuts. Trevor Carroll came in with a time of 1:35.91 for the top spot. In second was Matthias Lindenbauer with a time of 1:36.42, and defending national champion in this event, Joao De Lucca qualifies third coming in at 1:37.20.
In the women's 100-breast, Andrea Cottrell swims a 59.35, which puts her seventh-best in the nation right now, and is the top qualifier for tonight. Her time also broke the pool record. Gisselle Kohoyda qualifies in fourth place and gets a B-cut, swimming a 1:01.79. Coming in at eighth is Lucy Kramer, who went 1:03.64.
Three Cardinal men sit atop the 100-breast standings going into tonight's finals. Kameron Chastain is first in 53.20, which breaks his own pool record. Then, Thomas Dahlia qualifies second in 53.33, an invited NCAA time, and Addison Bray comes in at 53.50, good for third and a B-cut.
Erica Belcher is the top Cardinal swimmer in the women's 100-back, qualifying in second. Her time of 53.79 is an NCAA B-cut. Kristina Steins was fourth with a time of 54.26, Kenzie Buss came in fifth going 54.28, and Krissie Brandenburg qualified seventh in 54.80. All of those times were better than a B-cut Mary Mittel's time of 55.51 puts her in the B final.
In the men's 100-back, Aaron Young qualified first with a time of 47.08. Grigory Tarasevich was second in 47.60, and Aaron Greene went 48.16, which was good for third. They all had B-cut times. Caryle Blondell qualified in sixth with a time of 49.01.
In the men's 3-meter diving, Sean Piner and Sam Blair both advanced to the final.
The finals begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight at the Ralph Wright Natatorium.
