
Swimming and Diving Head to Indiana

The University of Louisville Swimming and Diving team will travel to Bloomington, Ind. tomorrow to take on the Hoosiers in the last dual meet of the season. The competition will begin at 5 pm at Counsilman-Billingsley Aquatic Center.
All four teams are ranked among the top-25 in the nation. The Cardinal men are ranked No. 7 with the Hoosier men right behind at No. 8. U of L's women are at No. 14, while IU's women sit at No. 11.
In the last competition a weekend ago, the Louisville men and women took down in-state rival Kentucky in Ralph Wright Natatorium. The men won 212.5 - 87.5, while the women prevailed 193 - 107 on Senior Day. Joao De Lucca and Tanja Kylliainen were awarded Swimmer of the Week honors by the American Athletic Conference for their efforts. De Lucca won the 100- and 200-free gaining NCAA B-cuts in both, while helping the 400-free relay set a new pool record vs. Kentucky. Kylliainen picked up an invited NCAA time from 2013 along with a B-cut on her way to winning three individual events. Other multiple event winners from last Saturday were Kameron Chastain, Caryle Blondell, Evan Noble, Pedro Coutinho, Kelsi Worrell, Krissie Brandenburg, and Breann McDowell.
Last weekend, the Indiana women took down in-state rival Purdue at home by a 154.5-135.5 score. The Hoosiers won 12 of 16 events, including multiple wins from Brooklynn Snodgrass, Lindsay Vrooman, Bronwyn Pasloski and Gia Dalesandro.
Snodgrass won titles in the 200-medley relay, 400-free relay, 100-backstroke and 200-backstroke. Vrooman was the winner in the 200-freestyle and 500-freestyle, and was also a member of the winning 400-free relay. Dalesandro continued her hot streak with victories in the 200-medley relay, 100-butterfly, 200-butterfly and 200-individual medley. Pasloski swept the breaststroke events, taking the 100 and 200.
The IU men haven't competed since Jan. 18 as they posted wins over Iowa and Missouri in Iowa City. Eric Ress was named the Counsilman-Hunsaker Swimmer of the Week by CollegeSwimming.com with an NCAA B cut and victory in the 200 backstroke, a win in the 200-IM and a second-place finish in the 100- backstroke.
Anze Tavcar took home Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors after the meet, putting up wins in the 50-free, 100-free and 400-free relay. Tavcar posted a season-best and NCAA B cut time of 20.18 in the 50- free, then added an NCAA provisional time of 44.21 in the 100-free. He teamed with James Wells, Jackson Miller and Mike Hurley to win the 400-freestyle in 2:59.34.
The next action for the Cardinals will be hosting the American Athletic Conference Championships at Ralph Wright Natatorium from February 19-22.
