Hey Cards fans!
Jaden here!
So today was just like any other day of preseason to say the least. By reading the past blogs and talking to people that have read them I know that you hear the same thing pretty much every time with a little inside scoop. So, I'm going to do things a bit differently.
As usual we woke up and entered the Yum! for our breakfast that our trainer Zach prepared for us and then we got warmed up and jumped right in to our first session! After, we enjoyed a great team lunch and some treatment then got right back in the gym for our second practice session. Overall, for a team that had just come back the day before from tubing and building cardboard boats all day at the lake, both practices were filled with intensity and we accomplished quite a bit!
What I really want to blog about today is the team. Preseason is coming to an end and after being around each other so much, you can't help but notice that a lot of personality has come out in everybody. Just to give you an idea of what happens I'm going to tell you a little bit about every player and their preseason tendencies! :)
First we'll start with Brooke Mattingly: today she became a bit aggravated with me because of my serves that roll off of the net and right into her zone. This has happened quite often over preseason so at the moment we're working to get through it and become friends again (if you're reading this I promise that I don't do it on purpose B.)
Next up is Carly Sahagian: this girl is a pro at shagging balls. Her knees may limit her to doing some of the drills near the end of practice, but you can guarantee as soon as we begin to run low on balls it will only take Carly a maximum of 15 seconds to get those bad boys picked up off the ground.
Then there is Emily Juhl: with her top spin serve beating everyone else's by about 10 mph you can almost guarantee someone is getting smoked in the face or whacked in the chest by the end of practice.
Caitlin Welch: never, and I repeat never, touch her feet while in the ice bath. If you do, be ready for the monster to come out of that 5'4" body!!
Randi Ewing: ever just want to stuff block someone right back in their face? Randi wants nothing more than to do that to our coach Alex. When it happens, you can guarantee a huge fist pump and a yell that only a mon-star's daughter could produce will occur.
Courtney Robison: do you want #1 or #2? With her self-talk every play (not always so positive) we've added a whole other person to our team to make it 16 members.
Hannah Kvitle: talk about a speed merchant, she has swept more balls (and dust) up off the floor than anyone!
Katie George: of course she's the clown of the group, always cracking jokes at practice and most of the time laughing at herself or picking fights with Janelle.
Speaking of, Janelle Jenkins: look out for this girl and her defense, her floor moves are likely to blow your mind ... and her sarcastic comments always make the team laugh.
Haley Pouliezos: need some advice on defensive moves? She can help you out. The 2013 Haley is faster, and reads better than ever before. A little birdie told me she can help out with some dance moves if you need them too (or at least she showed some off on the van ride at the lake.) ;)
Sydney Cooper: ever known a person to be a good singer that just chooses to sing horribly all the time? Well every day, and I mean every day in the ice bath, you can count on Sydney to do just that.
Brooke Betts: this girl's favorite color is pink. Every day you can count on there being some form of pink incorporated in to her attire. Although our team is red and she most of the time clashes we still love her anyways.
Javoni Faucette: need a good game face? This girl has hers down to a tee. This preseason she has gotten it down pat. She's often one to make you smile though too :)
Lastly we have Maya McClendon: I don't think a day has gone by where Maya hasn't cracked a joke about herself or yelled "no!" when one of her moves had to be replayed during film.
That's just a little about what has gone on with each of the girls throughout this preseason. Check back in for a story on our last day tomorrow!
L's up!!!
Jaden
