OMAHA, Neb. - On the eve of the 2013 College World Series on Friday, the fourth-ranked Louisville baseball team participated in the annual practice day at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha in preparation for the program's second appearance on the biggest stage in college baseball.
The Cardinals, who open the journey for a national title against Indiana on Saturday at 7 p.m., CT on ESPN, kicked off the busy day by taking a team photo in front of the famous "Road to Omaha" statue outside the ballpark. That was followed by interview sessions and the recording of other video elements to be used during the coverage of the College World Series by ESPN, NCAA.com and inside TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
Louisville then had its first and only chance to be on the playing field prior to Saturday night's opener with a 60-minute practice session in front of fans and media. The Cardinals conducted their typical pregame batting practice session while also taking groundballs and working on outfield communication during Friday's practice.
Later in the afternoon, Louisville players and coaches participated in a 60-minute autograph session with fans along the first base concourse. Head coach Dan McDonnell closed out the afternoon by participating in a pre-championship coaches' press conference.
After a break from organized activities early in the evening, the busy day in Omaha concluded for the Cardinals with the team barbecue dinner and the annual opening ceremonies inside the ballpark. Heavy rain and wind forced the opening ceremonies to be halted after only 15 minutes.
