Swimming and Diving Have Banner Day at Day 3 Prelims

The University of Louisville swimming and diving had a historic qualifying prelim session that was highlighted when Kelsi Worrell made an A-cut time in the 100-fly. In all 25 swimmers return for this evening's championship.
In the 400-IM, Tanja Kylliainen boarded the fastest qualifying time with a 4:14.64. Abigail Chin was second (4:15.53) Victoria Mitchell qualified fifth with a time of 4:19.94. The Cardinal men were also atop the leader board, led by Nolan Tesone's 3:48.34. Evan Noble will join him in the A-finals with a seventh place time of 3:54.70.
Freshman Kelsi Worrell scorched the BIG EAST 100-Fly mark with an NCAA A-cut time of 51.55. She now holds the one of the top three times in the 100-fly in the nation, and is one of two freshman with that honor. Brittany Robinson was third in 54.44, Jackie Sherrard was fourth with a 54.63 and Mary Mittel was seventh with a 55.26.
In the men's 100-fly, three Cards advanced to the A-finals with Aaron Young posting the third fastest time with a 48.28. Albert Lloyd was fifth with a 48.75 and Nathan Kinney was eighth with a time of 49.62.
In the women's 200-free, Breann McDowell advanced to the A-finals with a time of 1:47.04. The men may not have the top qualifier but hot on his heels is Joao De Lucca with an effortless 1:37.09. U of L will also send Albert Lloyd 1:37.35, Samuel Hoekstra with a 1:37.99 and Alex Burtch with a 1:38.12.
In the women's 100-breast, Notre Dame's Emma Reaney put up an A-cut time of 59.20 to qualify atop the field. U of L's Gisselle Kohoyda was fourth with a 1:01.88. The U of L men are all over the A-final with three Cards in the field led by first place qualifier Addison Bray (53.59). Kameron Chastain was second in 53.70 and Michael Haefner was seventh in 54.
U of L women put four 100-backstrokers in the A-final, with Krissie Brandenburg (53.95),(Eszter Povazsay (54.52), Erica Belcher (54.53) and Mary Mittel (55.0) making the cut. The men will send three Cardinals to the A-finals in the 100-back, led by second place qualifier Aaron Young (48.54). Nathan Kinney was fifth in 49.28 and Caryle Blondell was seventh in 49.93 to round out the field.
