Nine members of the No. 16 University of Louisville men's swimming and diving team will be in action this week at the annual Swim Classic on Friday and Saturday (Jan. 18-19) at Perkins Natatorium on the SMU Campus in Dallas.
Each team will feature eight swimmers and one diver in the meet with one member of each team allowed in the `A' final and `B' final of each event. Events begin at 8:30 p.m. ET each night . Purdue, SMU, Florida, Louisville, Michigan and USC will square off in the Classic.
The unusual format pits eight swimmers and one diver from each team against a schedule of events that mirrors the NCAA Championship. The SMU Classic provides the opportunity to showcase the strongest and most versatile swimmers of each program. Competing teams must have a representative in each race, however, squads are limited to only the eight swimmers and one swimmer the team brings.
The eight swimmers that will be representing Louisville this year are Joao De Lucca, Caryle Blondell, Alex Burtch, Kameron Chastain, Nolan Tesone, Juan Lopez, Samuel Hoekstra, and Albert Lloyd. The lone diver representing the Cards will be Nikolas Sachs, who recently won both boards against Cincinnati on Jan. 12.
