
Blondell Named BIG EAST Swimmer of the Week

Sophomore Caryle Blondell of Louisville was named BIG EAST Athlete of the Week in men's swimming and diving in the seventh weekly awards of the 2012-13 season.
Blondell won the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard freestyle against Cincinnati on Jan. 12 as the Cardinals defeated the Bearcats 188-104. The sophomore took first in the 100 backstroke with a time of 50.83 and first in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 44.34. He also swam the lead leg of the 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams that won each event with times of 1:31.57 and 1:20.77 respectively.

Louisville and Notre Dame are ranked No. 17 and No. 21 respectively in the Dec. 5 women's CSCAA coaches' poll. The Cardinals and Fighting Irish are ranked No. 16 and No. 20 nationally in the men's Dec. 4 CSCAA coaches' poll.
Junior Joao De Lucca of Louisville has the fastest time in the nation in both 100 and 200 freestyle with marks of 42.05 and 1:32.57 respectively. He also has the seventh fastest mark in the 50 freestyle with a time of 19.61.
Sophomore Caryle Blondell of Louisville has the seventh fastest mark in the country in the 100 freestyle at 43.16 seconds.
Sophomore Addison Bray of Louisville has the 10th best mark in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 1:55.82.
