LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Former Louisville pitcher B.J. Rosenberg made his Major League Baseball debut last Saturday night for the Philadelphia Phillies to lead the way in the latest Cardinals in Professional Baseball update on UofLsports.com.
Overall, the University of Louisville baseball program has 18 former players on active rosters in professional baseball as of June 13. Rosenberg, a member of the Cardinals from 2004-08, was promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley last weekend before debuting for the Phillies with 1.0+ inning of relief on June 9 in Philadelphia. After a perfect inning of relief to begin his debut, including a strikeout of the first batter he faced, he allowed a 12th inning walk-off two-run homer to Adam Jones in his second inning of work in the big leagues.
Other recent newsmakers for former Cardinals included the promotion of Chris Dominguez to Triple-A Fresno in the San Francisco Giants' organization at the end of May as well as Ryan Wright's selection as a Midwest League All-Star earlier this month as a member of the Dayton Dragons. Dominguez debuted for Fresno by connecting for a game-winning RBI single in the ninth inning of a June 1 win over the Sacramento River Cats in Pacific Coast League action. Wright is currently hitting .301 with one home run, 17 doubles and 29 RBI in 60 games for the Dragons.
Former U of L pitcher Neil Holland continues to impress with his 3-1 record to go with two saves and a 1.50 ERA in 18 relief appearances for the Potomac Nationals in the Advanced-A Carolina League. Lefty Dean Kiekhefer is 1-1 with six saves and a 1.72 ERA in 21 relief appearances for the Palm Beach Cardinals in the Advanced-A Florida State League.
